Abortion/Termination of pregnancy

If you’re pregnant but not sure you want to continue with the pregnancy, find out about your options and where to go for help here.

If you do not want to continue the pregnancy or if it is not possible for you to have the baby, National Unplanned Pregnancy Advisory Service (NUPAS) and MSI Reproductive Choices and Abortion Clinics, Information, Advice and Treatment | BPAS are the Abortion providers in Buckinghamshire.

All of your treatment will be completely free and confidential, even if you are under 16.

The bSHaW service is unable to provide abortion services.

NUPAS

Commissioned by the NHS to provide free pregnancy advice, counselling and abortion services. Click here for a variety of ways you can contact NUPAS.

MSI Reproductive Choices

Provide NHS-funded abortion care, as well as self-funded treatment, through a network of clinics across England. To access our TOP services, we encourage patients to self-refer by calling 0345 300 80 90. Alternatively, patients can engage with us through webchat at www.msichoices.org.uk for inquiries and information.

Abortion is legal up to 24 weeks of pregnancy but the earlier you contact services, the more choices you have available to you. It is also possible to refer yourself to a private clinic and pay to have an abortion. There are two types of abortion, medical and surgical. Which type you have may be dependant on how advanced your pregnancy is, amongst other things.

MSIUK will be offering the following NHS services:

  • Face to Face Early Medical Abortion, or the abortion pill (up to 9 weeks and 6 days gestation)
  • Surgical Abortion up to 23+6 (Oxford Regional Treatment Centre only)
  • Telemedicine up to 9 weeks and 6 days (abortion pill by post)
  • STI screening, including HIV testing (as part of TOP treatment)
  • LARC fitting and removal (as part of TOP treatment)
  • A BACP accredited counselling service

In most cases abortion will be carried out as a day procedure. However, often you may need to attend more than one appointment at the clinic. You may need to attend an initial appointment where you will be given the chance to talk through the procedure and your choices. The procedure may then be carried out on a different day.
