Marie Stopes suspends services in the UK, Buckinghamshire not affected

News |

Marie Stopes have suspended all abortions to under 18’s and vulnerable women across the country due to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) raising some concerns about patient safety in August. All surgical terminations regardless of age have also been suspended.

Marie Stopes have advised that those women affected need to be referred directly to BPAS/NUPAS and not to them.

Buckinghamshire is not directly affected as BPAS is the main provider in the county. BPAS have extended their opening hours in case of any increase in numbers.

In an official statement Marie Stopes said

“We are working with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure all of our processes comply with their guidelines on training and governance.

Our immediate priority is to make sure we are able to provide the best quality of care possible for women who come into our clinics. This is the most important priority for us and we are taking some of our services offline until we are fully assured that our processes meet CQC standards.”
