The Contraceptive Implant (Nexplanon®)
The contraceptive implant (Nexplanon®) can now be used for up to five years in the UK, instead of needing to be replaced after three years. This change is based on strong evidence showing it remains safe and highly effective for longer, with no pregnancies reported in the additional two years of use. This is good news for patients, as it means fewer appointments and procedures, while still providing very reliable protection against pregnancy.
